A fallen guardian, a toppled pair of stilts, and a parrot with a perfect carnival chant. When the lead “carnival spirit” collapses mid-parade and the mask comes off, the crowd realizes the island’s most anticipated performer has been switched by a stranger. As police launch a search, retired army therapist Alex and her husband Reg (a dry-witted ex-SEAL with excellent aim and zero patience) are pulled into the colorful, chaotic world of San Malvino’s Moko Jumbie troupe.

Behind the music and towering stilt-walkers lies a tangle of rivalries, frayed alliances, and secrets no one wants dragged into the street. With their retired bomb-sniffing dog, Bombay, Alex and Reg chase clues through costume workshops, crowded parades, and backroom drama that’s anything but festive.
