About Murder at the Pledge Drive: A Fundraiser Pledge Drive Cozy Mystery

Murder was not on the pledge drive schedule. Wrenwood Radio is one bad fundraiser away from going dark, so I do what the board demands and go back on mic to beg for donations from a town that still loves a scandal. Phones ring, volunteers hustle, the goal board creeps up, and the gala crowd smiles for the cameras.

Then our development chair is found dead in the one place nobody can explain away: the locked records room where pledges, sponsor contracts, and “special arrangements” are kept. The official story is a tidy medical event. Quick.

Respectable. Convenient. I’ve spent enough nights in a studio to know when a narrative is being produced.

And this one is being produced fast, because if the truth comes out, the station loses its nonprofit status, our licenses get reviewed, and the board gets a clean excuse to erase me from Wrenwood for good. The suspect list is a fundraiser’s worst nightmare: board officers with secrets, volunteers with grudges, a politician who needs clean books, and a donor family that treats our signal like property. But the deeper I dig, the more I find something colder than a single killer.

Someone has been engineering what goes out over our air for years.
