Fresh air, forest trails, and family hikes… what could possibly go wrong? Plenty, if you’re me. When Odelia drags us all to the quiet New England town of Maplewick for a “relaxing” vacation, I’m promised long naps in the woods and maybe a chipmunk or two to chase.

Instead, we get an uncle with a wandering eye, a kid with a mean streak, a secretary with secrets—and a dead body that turns our getaway upside down. Now it’s up to me—Max the cat, world-class napper and reluctant sleuth—and my friends Dooley, Harriet, and Brutus to crack the case. Between Harriet’s desperate hunt for a local cat choir, Brutus’s brushes with death, and Dooley’s paranoia about terrorists on trains, it’s a wonder we get anything done at all.

But if we don’t solve this mystery soon, Maplewick won’t just ruin our vacation—it might ruin us for good.
