A stolen relic. And a murder that changes everything. Sheila Cooper's latest assignment takes her across the Irish Sea to a working farm in coastal Clare — five bedrooms, a temperamental water pump, a resident sheepdog named Bríd who takes her boundary patrols very seriously, and an owner who left a note that said these keys open everything, don't lose them, there's no spare.

The village of Ballydara is preparing for its annual St. Patrick's procession, and the prized artifact that leads every march — a processional cross that has been in the parish for generations — is locked safely in the church. Until it isn't.

When the theft escalates to murder, Sheila must navigate a community where everyone has an opinion and no one has the full picture. Sergeant Costello is professional and thorough — but she's building her case in a different direction. Sheila's notebook says otherwise, and this time, it's the notebook itself that breaks her own false lead.

Max works the trails. Bríd guards the boundaries. And Sheila learns that sometimes the crime you see first isn't the crime that matters.
