The first sign something was wrong was how well everything was going. Toby the magical talking dog has one simple goal this Christmas: run a respectable detective business and avoid unnecessary chaos. Unfortunately, Sun Valley has other plans.

When a wildly popular range of festive pet treats promises perfect behaviour, the town can’t get enough of them. Dogs obey without hesitation, cats begin to cooperate, and even the most stubborn animals fall neatly into line. Toby, however, has questions.

Important ones. Like why normally wilful pets are suddenly so compliant… and why they sometimes seem to be listening to something no one else can hear. With his best friend Sal (reluctant), his reputation at stake (fragile), and Christmas rapidly approaching (deeply inconvenient), Toby must uncover the truth before ‘perfect pets’ become something far more unsettling.

Because in Sun Valley, obedience isn’t always a good thing. And some bites are quieter than others.
